Legia Warszawa offers Astiz a role in the academy

Legia Warszawa has offered Inaki Astiz a role in the club's academy. However, the Spaniard has declined the offer.

What happened?

Marek Papszun replaced Astiz as the coach of Legia Warszawa in the winter of this year. It turns out that before the start of the new season, the Spaniard could have returned to the capital, but not as the first coach.

Why is this important for Legia Warszawa?

The Spaniard, who played for Legia for many years, led the Warsaw team in 10 matches in the fall of 2025. His record was very poor: one win, three draws, and six losses, 11 goals scored, and 15 conceded.

The former player and member of Legia's coaching staff will anchor in Cyprus. He became the assistant to Mauro Camoranesi, the 2006 World Cup winner, the new coach of AEK Larnaca.

The last season was extremely difficult for Legia. They wintered in the relegation zone, and if it weren't for Papszun's arrival, who completely changed the team's face, they could have been relegated to the first league. Eventually, they finished sixth and barely missed out on the right to play in European cups.

The new season will start on July 24. The first opponent of Legia will be Pogoń, and the match will be played in Szczecin.
